History of Villa Valdepian
The history of Villa Valdepian began with the charitable work of the Styrian Baroness Anna Plochl, who founded the Anna-Kinderspital children’s hospital in Graz. After her death, her charitable organization continued its work and built a climatic health resort for children next to the Savudrija lighthouse. The favorable climatic conditions were particularly suitable for children suffering from respiratory diseases.
After World War I, ownership was taken over by the Codiglia family from Bašanija, who sold it to the municipality of Graz in 1924. Throughout this time, as well as after World War II, the house retained its original purpose. In 1998 it was renovated and converted into the Villa Valdepian aparthotel. We still preserve the memory of the baroness whose work led to the construction of Villa Valdepian in the name of our bistro: Anna’s Garden.
Villa Valdepian today
Today, Villa Valdepian offers accommodation in 23 apartments for 108 guests. The building is located right by the sea and is shaded by imposing pine and cypress trees. Comfortable and spacious apartments have views of the sea or the park, and the building’s elevator also adds to the comfort. The pleasant ambiance is perfect for a relaxing vacation, but also for events such as unforgettable and intimate weddings, celebrations and team-buildings. Guests can perfectly round off their stay at Villa Valdepian with a top-notch gastronomic experience offered by our Anna’s Garden bistro. Chef Marko Gorel’s cuisine is characterized by the use of locally produced, seasonal ingredients according to old recipes, but with the application of modern culinary techniques.
